Back to school is just around the corner. This can stir up a lot of emotions for children, teens, college students and parents. Stress and anxiety can cause your child to change their eating habits such as restricting or overeating. Keep a look out for odd behavior. Here are some warning signs.

  1. Lunch box returning with food in it.

  2. Decrease in spending cost for school lunch compared to years past.

  3. Avoiding the large cafeteria by studying, walking, going outside or sitting in a smaller classroom.

  4. Difficulty with large crowds in the lunch room or sounds during meals.

  5. Making excuses for not eating dinner when they come home.

  6. Coming home from school ravenous.

Early intervention is key to help prevent a bigger problem erupting. As a dietitian I can help you child come up with nutrition related goals, meal planning, social food challenges and be a mediator for family support that is best for your child.
